Details of service in war: The 5^th saw plenty of fighting. They were constantly in touch with the enemy,and beside innumerable small skirmishes, mention maybe made of operations of 24 and 25 May at Klipfontein and Mooifontein;and Mokari Drift. The 5^th also were in operations at the Natal Border Campaign and also at Onverwacht. Capt Gehrmann was with Major Toll Vaal Bank Spruit 6 December 1901. Described with photo on page 104 in the book 'Letters from the Veldt' by Len Harvey.
