Service and life after the Boer War: Worked as a Miner, was living near Morphettville South Australia. Enlisted in the AIF (3rd Light Horse) 15 September 1914, Regimental No. 601 as a trooper. Promoted corporal 1 December 1914, sergeant 18 August 1915. Transferred to the Artillery 15 May 1916, then 2nd Division Motorised Transport Company 12 March 1918. Saw service at Gallipoli, in Palestine and France. Returned to Australia 24 September 1918. Re-enlisted No 86413 in the AIF 24 September 1919 with age down 10 years for 'Special Service' arrived UK 12 December 1919, noted as being on 'indefinite leave on 17 February 1920. Married Beatrice Butt in Bath, UK, 8 January 1920.
