Details of service in war: December 1899 - July 1900 in northern Cape Colony, Free State and Transvaal; his sub-unit was converted to mounted rifles December 1899. Promoted Corporal 6 November 1899. Promoted Sergeant June 1900. Wounded near Bethlehem 13/07/1900. Invalided, Australia, arr. 17/02/1901.

Service and life after the Boer War: Was part of the New South Wales Coronation Contingent, provided by the Australian Light Horse in 1902. William Joseph Patrick Stinson, rejoined the Australian Military Forces (Permanent Forces) on 15/8/1910 as a Warrant Officer (No 88) in the Australian Instructional Corps and served until 1938. He was based at the Rifle Range, Randwick, NSW. His brother Private Denis Alfred Stinson No 183, 36th Batallion AIF was killed in action on 17/1/1917 and is buried in Cite Bonjean War Cemetery in Armentieres, France. His first cousin Alexander William Stinson died as a result of wounds at Gallipoli on 19/5/1915.
